The Backyard Brawl

How could I not blog about the Backyard Brawl? I had said to friends and family last week, that if Pitt beat WVU to keep them out of the National Title game, it would be in my TOP TEN days of the year. Of course when I said it, I gave Pitt about as much of a chance as anyone else. WVU was favored by 3 touchdowns; Jer said the odds were 600 to 1 that Pitt would win. I am not sure if he was pulling my leg or not, but Pitt was definitely the underdog.

Pitt has had a horrible year in football this year. We started out with high hopes, with LeSean "Shady" McCoy coming to Pitt as our running back. To my delight, Jon somehow got us tickets to the PNC box at Heinz Field for the first Pitt game of the year. The Panthers won, and it was a blast to watch it from a luxury box.

Things went downhill for Pitt from there, with the exception of Shady and on defense, Scott McKillop. They definitely were not headed to any post-season bowls. Therefore, the Pitt faithful put their hope in playing the role of spoiler.

Much to my surprise and joy, the Panthers played that role beautifully. Our defense was awesome. The offense did enough to put some points on the board. And WVU choked. It was sweet to watch with Jon and Jer and celebrate via text messaging with Josh. I was so excited I could hardly sleep. We gave serious thought to setting an old chair on fire. We didn't. I told you I am a sports nut!
