Dorothy, We're not in Kansas anymore!

Early Saturday morning the Mission Team and I arrived back from Honduras to Western Pennsylvania. It is difficult to know where to begin to blog.....but here is one thought I had over and over: "Dorothy, we're not in Kansas anymore!"
The mix of primitive and modern is always surprising. A taxi careening down a rutted dirt road and having a mule charge toward you at an intersection. A huge semi truck filled with sugar cane going to the factory beside a man on a donkey carrying several bundles of the same crop. A man with a primitive wheelbarrel sitting on the side of the road selling vegetables across the street from a cell phone tower. All of these images added to the feeling of being overwhelmed when first entering a 3rd world country.
It took me a few days to get my bearings and figure out what this mission trip was all about and where I fit into it all. I am thrilled to announce that I caught the VISION and will be going back!
It will take me several entries to relay all that God had for me on the trip, so let me start at the beginning: our flight was delayed in Pittsburgh, so we missed our connection to Tegucagulpa in Houston. Therefore, we had a long layover in Texas. I believe this was the first gift of God to us: the delay helped to bond us as a team. Another gift from God I received that very first day was that I had NO FEAR WHATSOEVER of the flying. Those that know how I feel about flying will know what a small miracle that was! The landing over the mountains in Teguc is nothing short of an acrobatic flying feat.....we were told there are many pilots that will not attempt this landing. Yet I found it to be interesing, not scary at all. (Thanks, Lord!)
Seventeen of our bags did not make it from Houston to Teguc that first day...or the second day....and did not arrive until the evening of the third day. Many of the bags that did not come had medical supplies in them. This meant a lot of tweaking of the schedule. One thing you learn on a mission trip very quickly is, NOTHING IS WRITTEN IN STONE.
I had several miracles and revelations and "growth spurts" while there.....each a story of its own which I will not go into right now. I hope I have whet your appetite enough that you will check back for my next Mission trip blog.

So very true that mission trips are never written in stone...I think one of the key words for mission trips is flexibility! Welcome home!
