Family

Maricella is a 32 year old mother of 3 in Honduras that I got to meet last week. Because of her and her children, I feel some of my heartstrings tied to that little villa in Central America. When I heard that Maricella makes her living as a hairdresser, I immediately said, "I must get my hair cut!" I thought this would be the perfect way to support her business. However, with the generous heart she has, she refused to let me pay her. I was able to provide a school uniform for her 12 year old daughter, Luz, who has thick black long hair and for her son, Luis, 11. Luis had some kind of foot problem while I was there. He was treated by the doctors and seemed to be getting a little better (he could put his shoe on, which was an improvement). Maricella's youngest child is 4 yr old Alejandro (pictured) and she is just about the cutest thing you'd ever want to see. This is the family I sponsor for a monthly food distribution. I was able to attend the packing of the food bags during my stay. Each family got a chicken, 3 doz eggs, corn meal, Corn Flakes :), powdered milk, rice, butter and beans. There may have been a few other items. Meeting my family, getting to know them, and spending time with them was a highlight. We had dinner together, and through the translator, Maricella and Luz told me a lot about themselves. I was amazed with how open they were with me! Alejandro just chattered and chattered on ......the interpretor could not keep up with all Alejandro wanted to tell me! Luis was much quieter. If you think of it, pray for Luis' foot. Maricella and Luz were very interested in the details of my life as well. Luz blurted out "how old!" when I told them I was 51. Then, she tried to backpedal by telling me I didn't look that old! Her mom agreed, saying she thought I was 40. Luis, however, said he thought I was 70!!!
