Future generations

Today at Community Bible study*, we were studying 2 Kings and the story of Hezekiah. Good stuff! Hezekiah is a great role model from the Bible. When he hears bad news, he turns to God in prayer. There are some awesome prayers of his recorded in 2 Kings. He did what was right in God's eyes. His son, Manasseh, not so much. Manasseh, as king, led the people astray with a lot of evilness, including worshipping the starry hosts, setting up altars in the temple to Baal, sacrificing his son to the fire, divination, sorcery...etc etc etc. Hezekiah was a godly man, and his son went very far in the other direction. So, a question in our homework was this: "How can parents or grandparents have an influence for good on succeeding generations?" That really got me thinking. Both my father and Jon's father speak of godly grandmothers that strongly influenced their lives . They talk about them having a great prayer life. They recall the Biblical principals they showed in daily living. And they talk about their love~both for the Lord and for others. I can't help but think that my family has reaped the benefits of the prayers of these two women from our combined pasts. I truly believe that they prayed for future generations. I feel the blessings and the fruit of their intercession. And, it leads me to believe that I, too, have a responsibility to leave a legacy of godliness to my children's children. It is my desire to consistently pray for future generations of my family so that those that come after me will love and serve God all the days of their lives.
