My sister is going to a Beth Moore Bible study, where they watch/listen to Beth on video, then break up and go to class to go over their homework on the material.
One of the disciplines that Beth Moore is asking them to do during this study is to actually get down on their faces to pray.
Rose thought her carpets were too dirty to actually try this right away, so last weekend she rented a steam cleaner from Giant Eagle and she and her husband scrubbed their carpets.
I thought this sounded like a good idea to try.
When I was a child, I was taught that you always get on your knees to pray. So I did. Then, when I was a teen, I went to church camp and one of my girlfriends told me she always laid across her bed to pray.
I thought that sounded great.....so I adopted that stance and my lazy butt loved it. Sad, but true.
I have prayed many ways since: in bed at night (I fall asleep far too often for this to be really effective), in bed in the morning, in the shower, in my car, sitting in a chair, at the altar, on my knees (least seldom way used), doing dishes...so I guess that would be on my feet.
Last week I tried on my face. My carpets REALLY need cleaned, so I spread a blanket out on the floor first.
Let me tell you, it is revolutionary. This posture is so humbling and such an obvious statement of the seriousness of your petitions. We live in a world at a time when we need to be serious about our prayers.
Give it a try. Honor God and receive a blessing all at once.
