Some people say I am a one-issue voter. That the only reason I am voting for the McCain/Palin ticket is because of the abortion issue. That is not entirely true. I can name for you many other virtues of this team that make them my choice as President and Vice President of our country.
But I will admit, the Right to Life is the biggest reason I will vote in five days for McCain/Palin.
I just think that KNOWINGLY voting for any candidate that doesn't support the Right to Life would haunt me for the rest of my life.
As a citizen, we don't have an opportunity to effect these issues in huge ways. So, I feel we must take the small ways we have available to us to do all we can to make murder not an acceptable practice.
I know women feel that it is their body, they have a right to do what they want with it. And I get that. However, in so doing, they are dealing with another body, the one inside of them, that they DON'T have the right to destroy. It's a Women's issue, we're told. A Women's "right". And, if they are aborting a girl, what about her rights? And don't boy babies have rights, too?
Why is a drunk driver tried for two deaths if he kills a pregnant woman?
Pro abortion people do not believe that the fetus inside a woman is really a person. That life does not begin at conception. As a Christian, I know that the Bible tells me that God knew me in the womb. That when I was hidden in my mother's inner parts, He knew me. Therefore, I cannot believe any other way.
Abortion is not a pretty subject. It is not one I particularly enjoy talking about. However, it is a reality in our land. A few quick facts:
-Heart begins to beat around 22 days from conception
- There have been more than 40 million abortions since 1973.
- Women have cited 'social reasons' , not mother's health or rape/in- cest as their motivation in approximately 93% of all abortions.
- A June 1999 Wirthlin poll found that 62% of Americans support legal abortion in only three or fewer circumstances: when the pregnancy results from rape or incest or when it threatens the life of the mother.
I know, I know. We have had a pro life President for 8 years, and Roe vs. Wade has not been overturned. However, Bush did sign into law the Born Alive Infant Protection Act (he signed it in Pittsburgh!) in 2002. His father, Bush 1, cut off aid to agencies that were giving aid to foreign countries to promote and support abortions as well as uphold Pres. Reagan's ban on using government money to pay for military abortions except where the life of the mother was threatened.
In 1993, President Clinton undid years of pro life work by issuing five executive orders reversing Title 10 regulations banning abortion referral by federal employees, repealing the Mexico City Policy restricting federal funding of international organizations that work to reverse countries' abortion laws, negating the ban on funding for fetal tissue transplants, ordering military hospitals to perform abortions, and asking the FDA to "review" the import ban on RU 486.
Clinton vetoed the Partial Birth Abortion act in 1996.
I could go on and on, but the Democrats undo every good piece of legislation that is enacted to protect the unborn.
So, there's my statement. Here I am, a one-note voter that tried to woo her son to vote for McCain-Palin with one word: "scissors".
If that's on my tombstone, I'm okay with that.

Many, many, many good points, Patty. I have to admit that I didn't know what a partial birth abortion was until two days ago. Up until that point, I just knew any kind of abortion was bad. Then I heard an anti-Obama ad on the radio that actually described what the procedure is. If I hadn't been on my way to school, I probably would have pulled over and cried while throwing up. I really can't think of any more hideous act that one human can do to another. God help us. How the people who perform these procedures can sleep at night or stand living with themselves is beyond me. Also, I think that as Christians we should fight a lot harder against our tax dollars being used for abortions.
Thank you for this post - that's all I want to say.
Obviously I agree with your position and your sentiment on this issue. It is one of a few reasons that I still wonder if I can pull the lever for Obama on Tuesday.
My twin! And hero!
=)
I agree on all counts. Long live little babies!
Your title is very clever, by the way.
Partial birth abortion is sickening. I don't even think they should call it that, because it doesn't explain fully what is happening. They deliver the baby far enough out of the womb to stick a blunt instrument in its brain, killing it. In any other place, that would be considered murder. I'm with Heather in that the first time I realized what was actually involved, I became physically ill.
