Make New Friends. . . .

Jon and I were invited by a fellow Rotarian to a Steeler party yesterday. Now don't be too shocked, but, we went. Often Jon and I can be very anti-social and just cozy up at home in front of the TV. This is NOT my personality, but it's Jon's, so I have adopted it somewhat.
We ended up having a terrific time!
Counting us, there were five couples. I knew only one of them (and I have known them for close to twenty years). I had met some of them before, knew their faces, but didn't really KNOW them.
First of all, the food was unbelievable. The spread of appetizers was off the hook. At half time the hostess served salmon, prime rib with hollandaise sauce, tortellini and artichoke salad....yum yum and double yum. The hostess, Paula, made a least four desserts!
The Steeler game was bizarre in many ways. Although we seemed to rack up a lot of yards, we ended up with 11 points??? Huh??? Very strange. It seems to me that Ben is hurt; he is throwing only short passes (but Hines Ward was spectacular with those 11 catches) and did Ben ever think about throwing the ball away instead of getting sacked?? I believe Byron Leftwich to be a very capable back up. PUT HIM IN. LET BEN HEAL. But I digress......
These people who had the party had taken a ranch house (a big ranch house) and put a second floor on it. The tour of the remodeled home was a highlight!! These people had so many good ideas in home remodeling, they could do a house flip. 1) There was a walk-in cedar-lined closet 2) They had put in a sauna!! 3) There were six bedrooms and five baths 4) there was an aquarium built into the wall going up the stairs to the second floor 5)There was a sunroom with a hot tub
The male halves of all these couples all sit together every Wednesday at Rotary. So, there was a lot of joking and story telling going on.
But probably the highlight was that the male host WAS A TV ACTOR in his day and his wife dragged out photos from his thespian phase. He was on Days of Our Lives and The Young and Restless. He had so many good tales about Hollywood. Also, his son was the stand-in for the young kid in Little Man Tate, and the father went to the set with him every day. So, he had stories about Jodi Foster and Harry Connick, Jr, as well.
All and all I think Jon and I did well venturing out of our cocoon on Orchard Park Drive. Maybe we aren't as antisocial as we look. Then again......
