Television taping

Yesterday I was a guest on a television talk show.
No, it wasn't Ellen, or Oprah, or Maury.
It was the June Jeffries Show. The official title is ....gosh, I can't remember what the official title of the show is.
Anyway, June is a wonderful African-American pastor who also happens to have her own television time. Her church is a Baptist church in East Vandergrift. What is so ironic about that is, E Vandergrift is definitely in my neck of the woods, where I grew up.
I was invited to be a guest along with two area pastors who went on the Honduras trip this year.
It was such a fun and interesting experience!
The studio is on Western Avenue on the North Side. Neither of the pastors could drive me to the station so I had to find it myself. I knew "about" where I was going, but did pass the location the first time. Luckily I knew enough about the area to make a big circle and come around a second time. The studio is probably the last building before you go over the West End Bridge.
When I pulled into the parking lot I saw Pastor Gary Weston, so I knew I was in the right place.
You had to buzz to get into the building. So, I guess they keep the rift raft out of the studio.
Once inside, we had to sign in and then wait for June and also wait for Pastor Dan Muttart from Bakerstown Presbyterian.
Then June burst into the waiting room. She is a mass of energy and excitment. She loves the Lord and loves life! She had on blue jeans and a gold sleeveless shell, and high heels. She explained to us that she has to arrange her own "set" every time she tapes. Different shows tape in the studio and all have a different "look" to them. Her job is unglamorous in that she drags out the coffee table, centerpiece, and chairs and arranges them in just the right spot in the studio.
There were 3 cameras. We each took a seat on the "set" while June continued to buzz around, making further arrangements. We were told to be there by 1:30pm but we weren't even close to taping by 2. Finally June puts on a blazer over her shell (she will be seen from the waist up only on camera) and takes a seat with us in the conversation area of the set. We all get miked up and have a sound check. I can see us in the monitor and am so happy that they are shooting me from my "good side" :)
June had explained that the theme of the show was to be Matthew 25 where Jesus says "Whatever you have done to the least of these you have done it unto me". I am excited because this is the very verse God gave me to convince me to go on the mission trip in the first place. The key phrase for me in that verse is "I was sick and you visited me".....you see, the mission is a MEDICAL mission, and I am not a doctor, a nurse, nor anything close to a medical person. But, when I realized I had the gift or ability to VISIT, I said, okay, I can do this.
The taping was 40 minutes long. I think I answered two or three questions, and told one story from the trip. It was all very easy and fun and I wasn't a bit nervous.
The show is only broadcast on Comcast. It will not be shown until August, and then it will air at least 3 times.
I will get a DVD of the show, though, and may have a premiere if Iam pleased with the outcome.
