Tensions Rise

If you have been keeping up with breaking news from Honduras today, you have heard that the ousted president tried to return to the country this afternoon. The runway at the Tegucigalpa airport was blocked by military vehicles and armed soldiers. Therefore, the plane diverted to Nicaragua, and the ex-president says he will try to land there again in a few days.
You certainly don't need me for a news report, CNN and The Drudge Report and all other major news outlets have that covered.
But you know I have a vested interest in the safety of the people there, as I left part of my heart in that country when I visited.
I attempted to first reach out to our translators who all live in Teguc. The village we ministered in is further out, so all of this does not affect them as much. I was able to connect with Melissa, who feels that God's hand was in the coup, that having Zelaya gone would be better for the people. This was in the early days of this crisis. I have not heard from her since the KFC across from the airport was blown up; since the military have shot out some tires, or since this latest drama and confrontation at the airport.
It was also important to me to reach out to the family I support. Maricela is pregnant, due in August. (She is pictured, above, at the May food distribution) She has 3 other children. I had a need to know that they are safe. So, I went on babblefish.com the other night and got what I wanted to say to them translated from English to Spanish. I then text=messaged them, not knowing whether I'd hear back or not. But, I figured it was worth a shot.
MARICELA TEXTED ME BACK A NOVEL!
She is fine, as are the kids. They do not have electricity all the time and there is no school during this crisis. (Their summer break is in Dec and Jan). She has not had much work (she is a hairdresser) so I immediately texted "necessito dinero?" to find out if she needs money. She texted back, a million thanks, but no, she does not need me to send money. (I then began to wonder how I would get money down there anyway!!!) They were all living in terror for this showdown with the ex-president. She sent kisses to Bethany and greetings to my friend Linda. She ended her text with God bless you.
What a relief to picture them all safe and sound down there in La Villa San Francisco! Send a prayer up for them if you think about it.
