Carolyn
Heather had a blog on Feb 12 about her Pap's birthday that inspired me to write a similar blog. I hope you are not offended, Heather, but flattered. Anyway, yesterday, Feb 13th, Jon's mom would have been 78. She went to be with the Lord at the young age of 56. I miss her immensely. She was so much more than a mother-in-law to me: she was a spiritual mentor, a confidant, and a best friend. I know that's not something you usually hear about a m-in-law, but Carolyn was different. She was special. For those that never met her....you missed one of the greats. When I first met her when Jon and I dated, I was a little intimidated. I fell into an easy friendship with Frank, Jon's dad, but I felt a little reserved around Carolyn. I now know that she was looking out for her baby (Jon) and did not want to throw her support my way until I proved myself. Was I going to hurt her child? Props, Carolyn, for loving your boys so much. Once we got to know each other, we were bosom buddies. I knew I could count on her for friendship, advice and prayer. She was one of the wisest and kindest people I ever met, not to mention such an encourager! Her years of teaching first grade made her a very patient person as well. Her influence on Josh can be seen to this day as she gave him a love for learning. (she would be so proud that you are getting your PhD, Josh!) She taught him to read when he was 3 by cutting out coupons and using them as flash cards. Many can testify about her gift of discernment. Her ministry to men and women alike in her ability to listen, discern, care and pray is legendary. I am happy for her that she is in GLORY and that she has seen the face of our Lord and Savior. But I will never stop missing her. My life is richer for having known and loved this woman of God.

I can only hope that my mother-in-law and I have such a strong and uplifting relationship as you did with Mrs. Grubbs.
What a blessing!
I miss her too! The only vivid memory I have with her is sitting on the couch and her teaching me to read too!
