In The Four Loves, C. S. Lewis writes: "Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art, like the universe itself (for God did not need to create). It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things which give value to survival."
Friendship is high on my list of necessities, so I concur with C.S. Lewis that having friends gives meaning and value to survival.
I just read the blog of a friend who is experiencing change in his life. Blake was offered a job in his field at Mt. St. Mary's College (or is it University?) in Maryland. I actually was there once to watch Jeremy run in a track meet. It is a beautiful place and I can picture Blake being very happy there. It's amazing how people come and go in your life, and what memories and impressions they leave on your heart.
Blake has been such a bright light in our church family for the past few years. He has a wry sense of humor, and he proved he's not afraid to step up to the plate and take on responsibility. Blake was a leader in our small group studies....the one our Pastor attends, so you know he was always on his toes! The future looks very bright for Blake as he begins his professional life out in the "real world". God Bless, Blake. You will be missed.

The good bye Blake blog had to be written. We really must think alike. =)
Thank you Patty. It has been a privilege to get to know you and your family. Thank you for inviting me into your home for Monday night bible studies and making me feel welcome. I will miss you and everyone at Bakerstown.
