So what do you do with a Honduran boy who surprises you with a 45 day Visa?
You let him chill in Chautauqua.
Let me explain. The couple who actually brought the "mission" of Honduras to Bakerstown Presbyterian Church own a Victorian inn on the edge of Lake Chautauqua in Bemus Point, NY. In their family for generations, The Hotel Lenhart is a huge wooden structure that beams you back to a different era. It has a long front porch with multi-colored rockers where you can sit and watch the sun set over the lake or gaze at the boats on the water. John and Deb go to New York every summer to open the Inn and oversee the day-to-day operations. In the winter they live in Mars and attend First Presby of Bakerstown.
Their church family while in New York has been going to Honduras, to La Villa San Francisco, since the early 90's. John and Deb caught the vision and began going along 9 years ago.
Therefore, that group of people in that neck of the woods have known Wensen Mateo much longer than any of us. They will be thrilled to host him in their homes, and after that, he can stay at the Inn and help out with repairs and odd jobs.
This is our plan TODAY, anyway. He is to travel north next Wednesday. His plane ticket back to Central America is Aug 26.
Many of our local mission team will spend the last weekend of Wensen's stay at The Hotel Lenhart with him. Good times.
