The Barnard House

This would be the fourth year in a row that my sisters and I have abandoned the rather primitive conditions of staying on the camp grounds to instead make our abode at the Barnard House Bed and Breakfast. Renting out the whole house for the week, the owners of this quaint establishment leave us to our own devices, and do not infringe on us to make us breakfast. Instead, they fill the cupboards and refrig with breakfast items and we have full reign of the premises. There are four bedrooms in the B and B, and with 3 sisters, this has worked out that I have rotated through the rooms so that now I have spent a week in every room. My room this year was my favorite. Decorated in a Victorian vein, it has white furniture which includes twin beds, a white wicker chair and a white vanity with mirror. The room is almost a suite, as it has a large walk-in closet with dressing area, a large entry way, and a 2nd floor private porch. This room shares a bath that includes a claw-foot tub with one other bedroom. The Barnard House has bikes available to ride as well as intertubes to float your way down the river which runs right in front of the house. We took advantage of the bikes and the close proximity of the B and B to the "Rails to Trails" bike trail. Two days I ventured out on a ten speed and went 8 miles on the second trip! We also walked the bike trail one day. The front porch of the house (pictured) faces the river, and sitting there is what my sister calls "her happy place". The Barnard House is about two miles from the campground, and the biggest challenge is to stay engaged at camp and still enjoy the amenities of the B&B. It's tough sometimes to tear ourselves away from the serenity of the inn to participate in the campmeeting activities. But luckily this year our speaker was an excellent evangelist by the name of David Schultz. His topic was "The Power of God" and every night he expounded on a different aspect of God's power: The power of one consecrated life; the power of prayer; the power of the Holy Spirit; the power of the Bible. Good stuff. I bought the tapes and will be happy to share with anyone interested in some good teaching.
