Honduras-less

No Honduras Mission trip for me this year! I am sad about it, especially since Bethany, Brad, Becky, Darren and Joe are there right now! It makes me miss being in on the action even more.
Bakerstown Honduras Medical Mission travelled to La Villa San Francisco in February. One of the items they reported upon their return is how much better health they found the people in this year. The water filters that began to be distributed four years ago by our team have really assisted in making healthier people. That is such good news!!
Joe Schmitt was the Lead on bringing water filters to our village in Honduras; he researched thoroughly the filters, and even became personal friends with the inventor. Manny is a professor at the University of Illinos and accompanied us to La Villa last year to introduce his latest invention: smokeless stoves.
This year Joe wanted to spread the water filter program even further throughout Honduras, so, working with Rotary International, the town of Pinalejo was chosen. The first report from the mission trip is that although Pinalejo is a much more developed town than La Villa San Franciso, the people are all drinking unfiltered water and have many physical ailments as a result. A $5,000 donation by individuals at Holy Sepluchur Church in Middlesex Township is going to mean that most people in Pinalejo will be gifted with a water filter.
Pictured in this blog, you can see how very simple the water filter is. It is basically a ceramic flower pot that has been fired to create very small pores that can trap parasites; and then the pot is coated with collodial silver. This silver kills bacteria. The pot is then placed inside a simple five gallon plastic container with a spigot.
Amazing how smart people can come up with simple and inexpensive solutions to big problems! And praise God, these people care enough to travel around the world to share clean water with all.
