Debbie Downer

Last night my daughter and I went to see the movie, " My Sister's Keeper". We had both read the book by Jodi Picoult, and really were looking forward to it. Yesterday was opening day for the film. We decided to go to the 6:30 show at Pittsburgh Mills where there is stadium seating for every movie....not every Pittsburgh theatre has stadium seating, you know, unlike other cities......but I digress....
We left early enough to grab a bite at Panera before the show. We bought our tickets and made our way to our seats. We sat through way too many previews (mostly thumbs down, Josh) ....and is it just me or are there more COMMERCIALS than previews at the movies these days?
Suffice it to say, the movie does not follow the plot line of the book. At all. And to me, the obvious efforts to pull the tears out of your tear ducts were really annoying. Apparently Bethany was trying to enjoy the movie anyway, even though it was not what anyone in that theatre was expecting who had read the book!! She called me Debbie Downer because I did sigh and tisk a little at the storyline.
As we walked out with other moviegoers, I noticed I was not the only one that was disturbed by the mutilation of the book's plot. Admit it, Beth, you were in the minority in that place!
I will say the young actress that played the cancer patient (Sophie Vassilieva)did a fantastic job....very believable. I think she'll come out of this a big star. Other than that, blah!

I'm glad you posted this, because I was going to see the movie. Beth lent me the book, and I'm almost done with it. It's beautifully done. But if the movie is nothing like it, I'll save my $8 (or is it $10 now?) and just be happy with reading the book.
