Many years ago, God gave me a special verse for my church as we once again were prepping for Vacation Bible School. I have the date written in my Bible....I think it was in 1992. This verse is still relevant today for our upcoming VBS which will begin June 29.
My church is a small church that doesn't have a lot of financial resources. Never will we put on a Bible school that has all the bells and whistles that many of the other local congregations have available to them. Ours is pretty bare bones, with creativity and ingenuity being the leading ingredients.
One valuable thing we DO have, and we DO offer, is Jesus. And, once you strip away all the colorful scenery, professional theatrics, high-tech wizardry, I hope that is what other churches are offering as well.
Rather than be discouraged by our amateur efforts to put on a memorable week of classes for the kids, let's shout from the housetops what we do have.
This verse sums up what our focus needs to be. From Acts 3, after a lame man begs Peter and John for money, Peter says this: "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth~walk."
My prayer for our VBS is that, although we don't have the sparkling trappings (silver and gold) of other Bible camps, we have the best gift, a gift of immeasurable value. May the children we minister to rise up and walk with the Savior of the world.

Our church may not have all the "bells and whistles" that bigger churches do, but it has the most dedicated bunch of people working on Bible School I've ever seen! God bless you all for being able to do this.
